Fasciculations (fuh-SIK-yoo-lay-shunz) are involuntary contractions or twitchings of small groups of muscle fibers. They are usually too weak to move a limb, but they can be felt as a flutter under the skin and are often visible. Fasciculations can occur in healthy people without any associated disease, and they can also appear as a feature of a nerve or muscle disease.
