Intermediate CMT is a form of the disease whose nerve conduction falls between the two main categories. In demyelinating CMT, nerve signals travel slowly; in axonal CMT, speeds stay closer to normal but the nerve fibers themselves are damaged. Intermediate CMT sits in the middle, showing features of both, and it is named for this in-between nerve conduction rather than for its severity.
