A motor nerve, also called an efferent nerve, carries signals outward from the brain and spinal cord to the muscles and glands, driving movement and other responses. It is the counterpart to the sensory nerve, which carries information the other direction, toward the central nervous system. In CMT, damage to the motor nerves contributes to the muscle weakness that affects the feet, legs, and hands.
