Nerve Conduction Velocity

Nerve conduction velocity (NCV) is the speed at which a nerve carries an electrical signal, one of the key measurements taken during a nerve conduction study (NCS). A nerve is stimulated at one point and recorded at another, and the distance divided by the travel time gives the velocity. In CMT, NCV is often slowed, especially in the demyelinating forms, where damage to the myelin sheath drags down conduction speed.
