Pes Planus

The Flat Foot

Pes planus (pess PLAY-nus), commonly called flat foot, is a foot shape in which the arch is lowered or lost so that the sole rests closer to the ground when standing. It happens when the tendons and ligaments that hold the arch together are loose or stretched. Although the high-arched pes cavus is the foot shape most associated with CMT, flat foot can also appear in the disease.
