The peroneal nerve (pair-oh-NEE-ul), a branch of the sciatic nerve, supplies movement and sensation to the lower leg, foot, and toes, including the muscles that lift the front of the foot. It is almost always affected in CMT, which is why foot drop is one of the disease’s most common signs.
