Polyneuropathy (pol-ee-noo-ROP-uh-thee) is a disease of the peripheral nervous system that involves many nerves at once, usually on both sides of the body and often starting in the feet and hands. The prefix poly means many. CMT is a polyneuropathy: it is a neuropathy that affects many peripheral nerves, potentially all of them, rather than a single nerve.
