Sensorineural (sen-suh-ree-NOOR-ul) describes something involving a sensory nerve together with its neural pathway, the sensing structure and the nerve that carries its signal. The word comes up most often with hearing: when hearing loss is part of someone’s CMT, it is usually the sensorineural type, meaning it stems from the inner ear or the sensory nerve rather than the mechanical parts of the ear.
