X-linked refers to genes located on the X chromosome, and to the traits or diseases caused by those genes. Because males have a single X chromosome and females have two, X-linked diseases often affect males more consistently, while a female’s second X can offset the effect. In CMT, the X-linked forms follow this pattern and include X-linked dominant and X-linked recessive inheritance.
